The GTGap! Multi-DoorFile Conversion Utility for GT Power
version 1.51 - February 13, 1990
Copyright 1989 by Jason Cory Wright
Sysop of The Rising Connection (615) 531-8789
located in Knoxville, TN running GTPower 15 - NetNode 070/002
1200/2400/9600/19200 8N1 24 hours 7 days - Hayes 9600 V-Series
- VERSION 1.50 HAS LOTS OF CHANGES - PLEASE READ GTGAP150.!!! for MORE
INFORMATION THAT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!!
----- THE GTGAP is a GT POWER Version 15.XX utility ------
The GTGap! is a Multi-DoorFile converter for GT Power that will allow GT
to run Gap, QuickBBS/RBBS (Dorinfo), Wildcat!, Doorway, & PCBoard v14 doors.
PCBoard v12.1 doors will also run with 1 extra (quick!) step. Entire
BBS systems are supported in v1.50 -- WWIV and QuickBBS. See
GTGAP150.!!! for more information!
Shareware Notice
----------------
The GTGap! is distributed under the Shareware concept. I encourage you to
pass it along to your fellow GT Sysops and let them try it too. I wanted to
be able to keep track of how many people are using The GTGap! and at the same
time, let them personalize their copy for all their users. Since I was asking
for a $10 donation from the start (when it was just a DOOR.SYS converter), I
kept adding more and more features into it until I thought it looked good
enough to let everyone use. I personally think $10 is a very reasonable price
for a multi-faceted converter that offers you full support over the GT Net and
full access to The Rising Connection, Home of The GTGap! plus customization
of your copy via a registration number, removal of the 5 second delay after
The GTGap is finished, and activation of the Super Indexing feature
mentioned in GTGAP151.!!!
Therefore, I have given you a copy of The GTGap! to use for a
period of not more than 21 days (3 WEEKS) from the time you first use the
program. It is an UNREGISTERED copy though. If your registration number is
plugged into the configuration file, each time a user goes into a door that
was converted by The GTGap!, he/she knows you have registered your copy since
your BBS name is there! It helps me to keep you informed for the LIFETIME of
your use of the program. There will never be an upgrade fee for The GTGap!
and your registration number will be valid forever! Just print the file,
REGISTER.FRM to your printer (or handwrite one that includes ALL INFORMATION)
and send it to me. Expect your registration number within 10 days.
If there is ever a bug or if you ever need a custom file, then registered users
will have their wished granted ASAP! Support can be obtained thru GT NetMail
or by calling my BBS. My NetNode number is 070/002. Address your mail
to Cory Wright or you can publicly contact me in lots of the GT Conferences.
If you have decided that The GTGap! is not for you, then please upload it to
someone else and destroy your copy. You shouldn't use it for more than 3 weeks
(21 Days) without registering your copy. I am also available in the Sysop
conference(s).
To register, use the REGISTER.FRM file within this archive & mail it to me.
Registration numbers are your responsibility and should not be given to anyone.
You will have an account made for your use on The Rising Connection.
Please print out the REGISTER.FRM file (or handprint/type one legibly) with
ALL of the information included.
Use
---
The use of The GTGap is very simple, but one other file is necessary.
This file is a familiar, straight text configuration file that you
are used to from using DOORPCH/PCBoard doors. It must be named GTGAP.CNF
and must reside in the directory that GTPATH has been SET to.
SET GTPATH=C:\GT will do this.. I am sure you already have done it.
The GTGap! also looks for the GTUSER.BBS file in this directory. They both
must exist and be in correct form.
THE CONFIGURATION FILE -- THIS FILE HAS CHANGED IN v1.50! *****
---------------------- -- PLEASE READ GTGAP150.!!! for important info!
Your configuration file MUST be named GTGAP.CNF and MUST be in the directory
that the GTPATH is SET to.
It contains these lines--all straight ASCII, each on a separate line:
*******************************************************************************
If you have not registered yet, line 1 of the config file should be set to
your BBS name and the registration # (on line 2) should be 0. When you get
your registration number, you need to change line #1 to match what I send
you. (Your registered version will have a # after your BBS name). Put your
registration number on line 2 when you get it. Until then, keep it 0.
*******************************************************************************
The Rising Connection #1 <= The Name as given to you when you got your Reg #
0 <= Registration Number (0 if not registered)
Cory <= The Sysop's First Name
Wright <= The Sysop's Last Name
The Rising Connection <= Your BBS Name as you want it in the doors.
Y <= Screen Display on or off (Y or N)
N <= Printer on or off (Y or N)
Y <= Page Bell on or off (Y or N)
Y <= Caller Alarm on or off (Y or N)
COM1: <= Complete COM port name (COM1: or COM2: or whatever)
N <= Actual Lock DTE rate (N if no com port lock speed)
50 <= Security level of callers within door
1 <= Node number (usually 1 I know, but for flexibility)
1 <= Kickoff Time **> See below
1 <= Minutes to give when time has expired. -*- See Below
NETWORK <= NETWORK if you are networking, NONE if not
HAYES <= HAYES if running a HAYES 9600 V-Series, NONE if not
ON <= Windows will be activated with ON, and disabled with OFF
YES <= YES if using GT 15.10 ; NO if using 15.01 or before
**> GT automatically subtracts 5 minutes from the user's time if the user's
time threatens the event. The last line of the configuration file is
there for your convienence. If you feel like GT's 5 minutes is not enough
time or if you want to BE SURE that they get out in time, then you can set
this to the additional amount of time to subtract from the user's time
in the door. Consider it as being a safety measure. In other words,
(Time user has in GT) minus (Kickoff time in .CNF file) = Time in Door
If you feel safe and sound with GT's 5 min. buffer, then I would set this
to 1. 1 is the recommended setting found by my beta testers.
*- Some doors freak out when given a time of 0 (like Max Headroom). If this
is set to 1 (or whatever), they are given 1 minute if they're time has
"expired". For example, a user has 5 minutes left & it is nearing an event.
You have set your kickoff time to 5 minutes. When he goes into the door,
it will say 0 minutes left. If this door freaks out when given 0 minutes
for a time, you will have hung your board and missed the event. With this
field set to 1, it would allow him 1 minute in the door, and he would be back
to the board with 4 minutes left. If you do not use this, set it to 0.
Remember, this is the MINIMUM time passed to the door.
v1.43 addition *>> The user's password and city, state, are taken from the
USER.CTL file. Even more info is used in v1.50!

New feature in version 1.41 and above:
You may put /NODAT as the LAST parameter on the command line, and The GTGap!
will not write a PCBOARD.DAT file. Note that it only applies when you are
using the 14 doortype. Example:
GTGAP 14 C:\GT /NODAT or
GTGAP 14 /NODAT

*******************************************************************************
The GTGap! v1.5x has implemented MANY new features YOU NEED to know about
*******************************************************************************
Version 1.50:
- Now can write DORINFOx.DEF (where x is the node number) for QBBS doors
CALLINFO.BBS for Wildcat! doors
USERINFO.TXT for Milton Gameworks Doors like Planet Busters
along with DOOR.SYS used by GAP
and DOOR.SYS for DOORWAY
plus ALL PCBOARD v14 files for PCBOARD version 14.x doors
v1.50 -> Runs WWIV and QuickBBS in a door! (YES, the actual BBS program)
See GTGAP150.!!! for more details.
- Will now support PCBoard v12 doors with an added utility provided
(RBBS will run on QBBS Dorinfo1.def files (etc.) that DO NOT depend
on the RBBS MESSAGES file! If you see this in a RBBS door doc file,
then The GTGap will not be able to convert to it.)
- Fully recognizes all events and compensates for the time left
including sysop-determined "kickout" time defined in the config file.
The sysop can now make The GTGap "kick" a user out of a door x minutes
before their time expires on GT to ensure that the event is run.
(Where x is a # of minutes that is set within the config file)
This field is recommended to be set to 1.
- Also has a MINIMUM time to pass to door field. This would be for doors
that lock when given a time of 0.
- The PCBV option has been removed since it will run under PCBoard 14.
*** REVISED COMMAND LINE Format! ***************
The GTGap! (v1.50) is now invoked with the command line as follows:
GTGAP (Door Type) [Destination Path] [/NODAT] []=optional
where Door Type is either -
GAP for GAP's DOOR.SYS
QBBS for Dorinfox.def (Dorinfo1.def, etc) of QuickBBS
WC for Wildcat!'s CALLINFO.BBS file
UI for the USERINFO.TXT file of Planet Busters and such
DRWY for DOOR.SYS for doors that require the user name
to be in ALL CAPS (otherwise--same as GAP)
14 for PCBOARD v14's files
WWIVGATE for the batch file to run WWIV (GT-WWIV.BAT)
QBBSGATE for the batch file to run QuickBBS (GT-QBBS.BAT)
where Destination path is the path to where you want the door file
written. Can be either with or without the trailing backslash.
In other words, D:\GT is the same as D:\GT\
This field is optional and will default to the current directory
if not specified. (You don't have to use a * anymore)
For example, to write a QBBS DORINFO1.DEF file to the GT subdirectory of
drive D:, you would enter:
GTGAP QBBS D:\GT
To write one to the current directory, you would enter:
GTGAP QBBS
Spaces are the only acceptable delimiters between command line options.

PCBOARD v12 instructions:
I picked up a little PD utility that lets me convert from version 14 of
PCBOARD to version 12's .SYS file. I have included it and here is how I use
it. BTW, I included a file PCB12.DAT that should be renamed to PCBOARD.DAT
and put in your directory where you keep your PCBoard 12 files as explained
below.
I have a directory named 12 off my GT directory. I also found the information
for the PCBOARD.DAT file in some docs I had. So I made my own and stuck it in
this directory. You can grab a hold of a PCBOARD.DAT file for v12 with some
other utility and stick it in a directory by itself.
Then I run a batch file like this:
CD\GT
GTGAP 14 (this writes the PCBOARD v14 files into my current GT dir)
CD\GT\12 (Change to the v12 directory)
CRUTCH C:\GT\PCBOARD.SYS (Run the converter by specifying the INPUT
PCBOARD.SYS file that GTGAP wrote into the \GT dir
on the command line)
Then run your PCBOARD v12 door! Simple!
Many thanks go to the author for writing this program. It is in no way a
part of The GTGap! and registering the GTGap! has nothing to do with your
use of this CRUTCH utility. I assume no responsiblity for its actions or
your losses -- I didn't write it. I just found it and am using it for the
few PCB 12 doors I have. I would rather ditch the v12 format, but it is there
for those older doors you guys want to run. Carl M. Evans of The Vervan's
War Board (Phone # in program) is the author. Thanks again!
Restrictions / Possible Errors
------------------------------
The GTUSER.BBS file cannot be more than 1 line long (shouldn't be anyway).
ALL Y/N flags for the Page Bell, and the HAYES/NETWORK/NONE fields
should be in upper case!
The GTGap! assumes that all connections are at 8N1. There is no other way
to detect 7E1 callers from what GT writes. And surely, only a TINY portion,
if any, should be at 7E1.
The GTPATH must be set! The GTUSER.BBS file MUST be in that directory along
with the configuration file, GTGAP.CNF. The configuration file MUST BE NAMED
GTGAP.CNF and MUST be in the GTPATH's directory
Conclusion
----------
The only real things I haven't let you configure were birthdays in
Wildcat!'s CALLINFO.BBS file (everyone's is 1/1/1970)--Some of you are
grateful I am sure and the user record number (fake of course, but record
2 if you are wondering) in the CALLINFO.BBS file. If you run across a door
for Wildcat! that actually uses record numbers instead of names.. (dunno why!)
then chuck the door program. Not worth it anyway....
I hope you can give me suggestions on how to make The GTGap better.
Contact me on my BBS anytime (number at top of documentation) and leave
mail to Cory Wright or send me a post card if you would like.
Also, the DOOR.SYS format is supported by Marshall Dudley's DOORWAY program.
The new 2.05 version of DOORWAY can make any program into a door and even
can make those using direct screen writes into a door! That's about 99.9%
of all programs being made into a door! You can pick this file up on my
BBS also under the name DRWY205.ZIP in the file bases.
Now go out and get some GAP, QBBS, RBBS, Milton (USERINFO.TXT) Games like
Planet Busters, Wildcat!, and PCBOARD v12 and 14 doors, or make your own with
DOORWAY and have fun! Even run WWIV or QuickBBS in a door!!!

Feel free to call me to report errors and suggestions for improvements!
I really need your comments as to how to make the program do more FOR YOU.
If I don't get feedback, I cannot improve.
I will include any type of door file conversion into this program that you can
give me ample information on. I want this program to be your all-purpose door
converter and I hope to support as many formats as I can.
Thanks
------
The GTGap! was conceived, written, and compiled by myself, J. Cory Wright.
Mr. Fred Jones of Diversions-I in Knoxville suggested the DOOR.SYS conversion
and it snowballed from there as I tried to improve it as much as I could.
I would like to thank Mr. Jones for his past and current willingness to
beta test on his BBS. Thorough beta testing helps to ensure the
finest quality of programming. Between the efforts of myself and Mr. Jones
watchful eye for bugs, we are committed to making The GTGap! your all-purpose
"GT to Anything" converter. I also wish to thank my beta testers that are
helping improve the program as we speak!
Instant access is granted to GT sysops via the garbled password(s) (14.03 and
15.00's). Either one will work.
I look forward to hearing from everyone!
